THREE CAMPS AND A VILLA

There’s an environment just for you

Madikwe Safari Lodge is a family of three camps and a private villa, each with its own character but all shaped by the same warm hospitality.

Let us help you to choose the place that feels right for you – whether you’re travelling as a family, a couple, a group of friends, or alone.

Every option offers a distinctive atmosphere, but shares the same thoughtful comforts and access to the best of Madikwe Game Reserve.

Choose the right camp for you

Like a family, the three camps and the villa each have their own personality, yet share the same essence, standards, and way of hosting.

This means you can move between them, or book suites across camps, with the comfort of consistency and a guest experience that feels familiar wherever you stay.

FAQs

What are the key differences between the three camps and villa?

Choosing the right camp usually comes down to four things: whether you mind the presence of children, how much privacy you prefer, the size of the camp, and your budget. All camps are close together and share a similar design style, so they combine easily for multi-camp stays or families travelling together.

Lelapa Camp – Our largest and most family-friendly camp, with 12 suites (including 4 dedicated family rooms). It has a warm, social atmosphere, but couples still enjoy plenty of privacy thanks to well-positioned suites and quiet spaces throughout the camp.
[All ages welcome]

Kopano Camp – Small, quiet and intimate, with only four suites. Ideal for couples and solo travellers who prefer a calm, boutique-style environment.
[16+ welcome]

Dithaba Camp – Elevated and secluded with panoramic views. Suits honeymooners, privacy seekers, and groups wanting to take over a whole camp.
[16+ welcome]

Elela Villa – A fully private, exclusive-use villa with its own team, chef and safari vehicle. Best for private travellers, families or groups wanting complete privacy and flexibility.
[All ages welcome]

Which camp is best for families?

Lelapa Camp is the best choice for families. It has spacious family suites, the Eco House for fun activities, storytime, and interactive learning; a large communal pool overlooking the waterhole; and plenty of room for children to play while parents relax. It offers the most flexibility for different ages and energy levels, and naturally has the warm, social atmosphere families enjoy.

Kopano Camp and Dithaba Camp can also accommodate families – especially those with older children – or younger children when the full camp is booked exclusively. Both offer privacy and quiet, making them ideal for families wanting a more peaceful lodge environment or their own dedicated space.

For complete independence and a fully tailored schedule, Elela Villa is ideal for multi-generational groups or families seeking exclusive-use comfort.

Which camp is best for couples or guests seeking privacy?

Kopano Camp is the most intimate choice, with only four suites and a calm, boutique atmosphere. It suits couples who want quiet and personal space, while still having easy access to Lelapa Camp’s facilities via a gentle walkway.

Dithaba Camp offers even greater seclusion. Set higher on the hillside, it feels completely removed. Couples can enjoy deep privacy while still being able to access both Kopano and Lelapa Camps when they choose. It’s also perfect for small groups wanting to take over an entire camp.

Couples staying at Lelapa Camp will still find privacy in suites located away from family rooms, as well as in the many quiet corners and decks throughout the camp.

For guests who want total exclusivity, Elela Villa is fully private with its own team, vehicle and schedule – yet remains conveniently connected to Lelapa and Kopano via a gentle walkway.

How close are the camps and villa to one another?

All four camps sit within the same hillside koppie, but each is positioned to feel private and self-contained.

  • Lelapa Camp, Kopano Camp and Elela Villa are connected by a gentle walkway (those staying at Kopano will have a good walk to reach the gym or communal pool at Lelapa Camp), making it easy for families or groups staying in different camps to meet up or share facilities.
  • Dithaba Camp sits slightly higher up the slope, giving it its elevated views and sense of seclusion. It remains close enough to reach Lelapa and Kopano comfortably when needed.
  • Vehicle transfers are available to take guests from camp to camp should mobility be a challenge.

The proximity means camps can be easily combined for multi-camp stays or larger family groups, while the spacing ensures each still feels like its own retreat.

Can I change camps during my stay?

Yes, you can move between camps, and it’s a wonderful way to experience the different atmospheres within Madikwe Safari Lodge.

Many guests choose to split their stay: beginning at Lelapa Camp for its generous shared spaces and then moving to Kopano Camp or Dithaba Camp for more privacy. If you’re travelling as a family group with different needs, you can also move easily between camps.

If your first-choice camp is fully booked, you can stay in another. The design style is cohesive across all camps, and each has a unique character, so your experience is always complemented – never compromised – no matter where you stay.

Do all camps enjoy the same safari experience?

Yes. No matter which camp you stay in, your safari experience is identical in quality. All camps share the same:

  • Expert guiding team
  • Game drive routes and access across the reserve
  • Vehicle setup and comfort
  • Wildlife viewing opportunities

Your choice of camp affects the atmosphere back at the camp, not the standard of your safari. Whether you prefer the sociable energy of Lelapa Camp, the intimacy of Kopano Camp, the seclusion of Dithaba Camp, or the exclusivity of Elela Villa, you will enjoy the same outstanding guiding and wildlife encounters.

Do guests at Kopano and Dithaba Camps and Elela Vila have access to the Lelapa Camp’s facilities?

Yes. No matter which camp you stay in, you’re welcome to use the spa, gym, boutique, signature pool and boma at Lelapa Camp. The camps (barring Dithaba Camp) are connected by meandering walkways, making it easy to move between them.

Using these facilities is entirely optional; your own camp remains your base, but you have the flexibility to enjoy everything the lodge has to offer.

Our fourth time in Madikwe was beautiful again! The lodge is great, the staff very friendly, the waterhole like a cinema, and the game drives with Dan informative.

We were a group of 10 – 4 kids and 6 adults. Our guide, Mike, and all the other amazing staff made all the adults and kids in our group feel so welcome. The service there is beyond anything we had imagined.
