FAQs

If I stay at Lelapa Camp, will children affect my experience?

Lelapa Camp does welcome families, so children may be present, particularly in shared and communal areas.

That said, the camp is designed to balance privacy and sociability. The suites are secluded and private, with features such as plunge pools and outdoor decks that create a quiet, romantic retreat for couples. There are also several calm spaces throughout the camp.

Lelapa has a naturally social atmosphere, which many couples enjoy for its warmth and energy. Guests who value a mix of privacy and gentle social interaction often find this adds to the experience.

If complete solitude is your priority, Kopano, Dithaba or Elela Villa may be better suited. Lelapa’s appeal lies in offering both privacy and connection, allowing guests to choose how they engage.

Why is Madikwe Safari Lodge such an ideal destination for honeymoons?

Honeymoon couples are often looking for space to simply be, without having to plan, organise or think too much – and Madikwe Safari Lodge delivers exactly that.

It offers privacy and romance in a wild, natural setting, where days unfold at an easy pace and everything is taken care of. As a malaria-free Big Five reserve, it’s also a reassuring and accessible introduction to Africa, making it an especially memorable place to begin your safari journey together.

At Madikwe Safari Lodge, the essentials that matter most on a honeymoon come together seamlessly: beautiful accommodation, exceptional scenery, thoughtful hospitality, excellent food and time to reconnect. There’s enough structure to feel held, and enough freedom to feel completely your own.

The result is a honeymoon that feels effortless, intimate and unforgettable, without needing to be overdesigned or overprogrammed.

I’m travelling on my own. Will I have opportunities to meet other guests?

Yes. Safari naturally brings people together, and many solo travellers find it easy to connect with others during their stay.

Game drives are shared experiences, with up to eight guests per vehicle, often from different parts of the world. Spending time together in the bush, sharing sightings and stories, creates an easy, unforced way to get to know people.

Meals and time spent in shared spaces also encourage conversation, while still allowing for privacy when you want it. Many guests leave with meaningful connections, and in some cases, friendships that last well beyond the safari for years to come.

Is there WiFi connectivity if I need to stay connected or do business?

Yes, WiFi is available throughout Madikwe Safari Lodge, particularly in main lodge and communal areas.

Connectivity is suitable for emails, messaging and light work, but it’s worth noting that safari is a remote experience, and bandwidth may be limited at times. WiFi coverage in suites can vary depending on location and conditions.

For most guests, the setup allows them to stay connected when needed, while still encouraging a natural step away from constant screen time.

Can I arrange a surprise proposal during my stay?

Absolutely. We love a good surprise, and over the years we’ve helped plan many proposals – each one different, personal and true to the couple behind it.

Whether you’re imagining something quietly intimate or subtly celebratory, the team can help you shape a moment that feels authentic to who you are and what you’re celebrating, rather than something staged or generic. From choosing the right setting to timing it just right within the flow of safari, we’ll guide you gently behind the scenes.

To keep the surprise intact and the experience seamless, we recommend sharing your plans with the reservations team in advance so we can help bring it together in a way that feels effortless and unforgettable.

How long after my wedding does the honeymoon promotion apply?

The honeymoon promotion applies to stays within 12 months of your wedding date.

To qualify, we simply ask for a copy of your marriage certificate at the time of booking or before arrival. The reservations team will confirm eligibility and ensure the honeymoon benefits are applied to your stay.

If you’re unsure whether your travel dates qualify, the team will be happy to advise.

Will we be sharing meals and activities with other guests?

In most cases, meals and activities are shared, which is part of the natural rhythm of safari and something many guests enjoy.

Shared game drives and communal dining often create easy, organic connections, while still allowing space and privacy when you want it. Couples can choose quieter tables or retreat to their suites, and solo travellers often appreciate the relaxed social atmosphere.

For guests seeking more intimacy, private meals can be arranged whenever you wish, subject to availability. The lodge is designed to offer balance – social when you want it to be, and private when you don’t – and the team is always happy to accommodate your preferences where possible.

The lodge itself is beautiful and the rooms with the private plunge pool were just spectacular. We can’t wait to return one day!

We stayed as a group of 10 and had an amazing time. All the staff were fantastic and catered to all our needs. The food, facilities, pool area – everything was 5 star.

We’re going to gush at length about the impeccable appointment of Madiwke Safari Lodge’s hospitality to give our structure a proper stretching.

We were a group of 10 – 4 kids and 6 adults. Our guide, Mike, and all the other amazing staff made all the adults and kids in our group feel so welcome. The service there is beyond anything we had imagined.

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed into the lodge like old friends. Nothing was too much hassle, the staff thought of things before we asked.

Our fourth time in Madikwe was beautiful again! The lodge is great, the staff very friendly, the waterhole like a cinema, and the game drives with Dan informative.
